Coaches/officials are responsible for managing this policy. They should check weather reports for the day of an event to see if a severe weather watch is in effect for the time of the event. If a severe weather warning is issued during the event, be prepared for a potential delay.
If lightning is sighted, count the number of seconds between the flash and the first sound of thunder and divide by five. This will indicate how many miles the lightning is from your location.
If the lightning is determined to be 10 miles away, check storm movement and begin making preparations for a potential delay in the game.
In the event a lightning strike occurs in the first half of the game, one 30 minute delay will take place. If a second strike takes place, the game will be rescheduled by the two coaches.
In the event a lightning strike occurs in the second half of the game, the game is officially ended and the score stands.
