The CSA provides center referees for all recreational games U8 through High School. Assistant Referees are provided for the U14 and High School games. Assistant Referees may be assigned to U12 recreational games if availabile. For the Travel program the CSA provides Assistant Referees for the U12 through High School Games.
Referees should be 13 prior to the beginning of the spring season and must take either the ISRC Beginning or re-certification class each year. Referee kits are provided to new referees during the preseason referee meeting. For those referees who are under the age of 16, a worker's permit must be obtained from your school. The current patch and worker's permit should be brought to the referee meeting. After 10 games by first year referees, 1/2 of the cost of the certification class is reimbursed.
If you have any questions please e-mail Jeff Barnes .
Please Note: To find a referee certification clinic please check the ISRC website for clinic dates at www.illinoissoccerrefereecommittee.org. Remember that all referees are at the grade level 8 (not school grade) and if you're new the title will be New/Entry Level.

Recreational Centers:
1. Arrive at the field at least 20 minutes before game time so the games can stay on schedule.
2. Appearance: referee shirt (tucked in with current year patch), black shorts, and socks (as weather gets colder black warmup pants may be warn along with a hoodie or coat under your shirt, gloves and a hat).
3. Equipment: Make sure you have the necessary equipment to ref the game. Equipment includes score cards, pen/pencil, time keeping watch, whistle, coin and flags.
Travel and Recreational Assistant Referees (AR):
1. Arrive at the travel game field 30 minutes (20 for recreational games) before game time.
2. Appearance: referee shirt (tucked in with current year patch), black shorts, and socks (as weather gets colder black warmup pants may be warn along with a hoodie or coat under your shirt, gloves and a hat).
3. Equipment: Always bring the necessary equipment for a center even if you're assigned as an AR. You may be called upon if the center's equipment fails (score cards, pen/pencil, time keeping watch, whistle, coin and flags).
4. Assist center referee in pre-game procedures (checking in players, checking goals and corner flags, and coin toss). Make sure that you keep the time and score as an AR in case either comes into question.
5. If a center is not there 10 minutes before games time, call the referee assignor and then start the pre-game procedures. If the center is not there by game time, start the game using the two man system. Your assignor will instruct you on how to report the game.
